a piece of cake!!!
...not so much! Ok here it is...the long awaited, much anticipated bridal shower favors I have been working on! Or maybe it just feels that way to me. I made 40 slices of cake! At the shower there will be 2 or 3 cake stands with cake and then we have extras to fill in the spaces as the slices are "eaten". I cannot in any way take credit for this darling idea! I have seen a few here and there on Splitcoast but nothing that caught my eye as much as these darling cake slices that Linda made! Stumbling onto her blog has turned out to be great for me!! :) She is a talented lady and funny too!...always a plus! She has fantastic directions if you want to try these too!! Ok...the bride to be's colors are black and white with accents of red. I decided to make the cake with brown textured paper so it would have a "cake" look. I copied the pattern onto each piece of paper from the computer. I first scored them all with an embossing tool and my ruler and then cut them out with my hobby blade. It was much quicker and a cleaner cut than using scissors. I made the frosting and filling with white paper. On the filling I tore the bottom edge and used diamond stickles to make it sparkly. The top edge of the filling I distressed with my fingernail (I noticed the next day after distressing the top edge that my nail suffered an injury...I have a little notch in my fingernail...it's all for the cause, right?) I stamped the swirl from the Priceless set onto the frosting twice. I used my stamp-a-ma-jig to make it appear "random" but perfectly placed. I used the large petal punch for the red flowers and a retired flower punch for the small black flower. The leaf is one petal from the large flower...I used my nail to curl it up. I attached them together with a silver brad and adhered them to the frosting with glue dots. The ribbon is from May Arts, is a sheer black with white polka dots. I filled each slice of cake with yummy chocolates. I hope that the bride to be and all her guests will enjoy these!! These "cakes" are time consuming but are pretty fun to make! I do have one question for ya'll out there...Do you think it needs something in the middle?...something to cover up the center? I would want it to be removable so it would just be for show while they are on the cake stands. Any ideas you have? I would LOVE to hear them!! Please leave me a comment and let me know!
thanks for stoppin' in!
chat at ya later...

That is the most precious thing I think I've ever seen! Looks like some kinda work!! They're sure to greatly appreciate it!
WOW!!! That cake is beautiful. Maybe I will get really motivated and try to make a slice. I did make some of your popsicle cards...they were a hit around here in my neck of the woods(Atlanta). For friends I attached a popsicle card to a box of real popsicles and they loved it. My kids think I am cool too after that card.
I love stalking your blog!

This is gorgeous! I may have to make this for the shower I'm going to since I'm a bridesmaid. What did you put inside as a treat?
WOW! This is so NOT a piece of cake! lol! Mind boggling beautiful! and you made 40 of them?! WOW! You are my new stamping hero!
Tara this is beautiful. They are lucky to have you!!! I am not sure I would put anything in the middle. If I did maybe a small bunch of the red flowers.
Why do I want a piece of cake right now? ;0)
Absolutley adorable!!! What patience you had! I enjoy visiting your blog to see your craftiness! Keep on stampin!
SPECTACULAR !!!!!
I am speechless! That is truly beautiful and labor intensive! It was well worth it! I would love to see a photo of the whole tiered set! You are a true friend to do that!
Oh my those are so beautiful!!!
Colors are stunning! What did you put inside?
What if you put a large red flower over the center where they come together? Like one from the Pretties kit?
Either way, just gorgeous!!
WOWZA GIRLIE !!!!! You did an amazing job on these !!! I've always loved these but thought they'd be too difficult !!! With Cait's wedding showers on the horizon I will definately have to give this a try !! Thanks for the inspiration !!
The cake slices are absolutely gorgeous! I made one of these once so I know how much time you put into them. I put some fresh flowers in the center and it looked very pretty! Great job!
SHUT UP - these are SO darling! you are SO talented and you can take all the credit for the awesome work you've done and i don't know ANYBODY that wouldn't LOVE to have these as favors for their shower - shoot for any party!
This is absolutely beautiful!! I'm so glad I found your blog to keep me inspired. May sound cheesy, but for your center - maybe the typical bride/groom figurine or a small bunch of flowers like a bouquet look- Or leave them as is, they are great.
PS Go Thayne!!
HOLY FREAKING CRAP! T--you toatlly out did yourself. This is soooo awesome. I am gonna remember this next time I am hosting a shower or some sort. TOO CUTE!

Thank you for such kind words about my little blog. Your cakes are freakin' amazing! Those colors must have been difficult to take on, but you totally nailed it. Your bride is going to love, love it.
